Transitional Pieces – Summer to Fall

woman sitting on the stairs and sharing Transitional Pieces Summer to Fall

Fall is around the corner and I’m super excited, it’s my most favorite season!  It’s pumpkin spice lattes, cool nights and most importantly cozy tops or sweaters and flip flop weather.  I’ve always loved fall because you get to merge your summer and fall clothes to create cozy, stylish outfits.  I’m also a big fan of selecting pieces that I will get a ton of use out of.  I’ve moved into a less is more mindset and buying pieces I truly love.

When I fill my closet with pieces I love I never have a hard time finding something to wear.  I also don’t mind spending more money on these pieces because if I love them I know I will wear them.  The items I’m featuring in today’s post are what I consider to be key pieces for anyone’s closet.  I define a key piece as something that enhances your current closet collection, an item that could be worn across multiple seasons and an item that isn’t overly trendy, the item is timeless and key.

Transitional Pieces Summer to Fall

First up jean shorts and a cozy sweater.

I lived in these jeans shorts all summer long, they are by BLANKNYC .  They are super soft cut offs in a dark wash denim and they go with just about everything in my closet.  I’ve paired it with a standard black essential cami from Banana Republic and the Leith Circle Cardigan.  I picked this cardigan up at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but I would pay full price for this piece.  It’s key because it can be used in every season, it has no limits.  I also bought it in several colors.

When I know what I like, I buy multiple pieces of it.  I paired it with a long necklace that I currently own (its old, but here is a similar style).  To bring this outfit into fall when it gets cool I simply switched out the shorts for jeans.  Last year I lived in my pair 7 for all mankind b(air) jeans and this year I expanded my collection with a dark indigo pair.  They are high waisted, fit like a glove and long enough for my legs, which is usually a problem.

Next up jeans and striped tops.

Striped tops are my new favorites, they are versatile for all seasons and I’ll admit I have way too many, but I think each one is different in their own way.  I’ve paired the striped tops with my favorite jeans and jean shorts, which I’ve already raved about.  This striped top is a long sleeve, lightweight shirt and perfect for layering on cooler days.  I also picked this up at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it’s a steal not on sale.  I may have this top in a few different colors 🙂

Another favorite striped top is a Banana Republic Striped Supima Tee, its ultra comfortable and versatile. It’s on the casual side, but I love it and is washes like a dream.  Catch this top in action in my Staycation Post.

All these outfits are perfect with sandals or booties.  My go to sandals are berkinstocks , which is a blast from my past, they were super popular when I was in high school.  I never owned a pair then, but jumped on the trend the second time around.  I also have an arsenal of booties to choose from.  Some of my favorites include these and these.

It’s just the beginning of fall and there are so many more trends to share, stay tuned for more.  What are your favorite trends for fall clothes, what are staples in your wardrobe.  Please share, I love finding new clothes to love!
