Non-Maternity, Maternity Office Wear

Disclaimer….Before you all think there is no way I would be interested in a post about maternity office wear, because you aren’t pregnant, stop right there!  This post is so much more than maternity clothes. In fact, it’s about non-maternity, maternity office wear.  I’m talking about clothes that you can wear before, during, and after pregnancy.  So if you like any type of clothing you will want to keep reading. 🙂

Finding clothes in general is hard work for me, I’ve become super picky.  Think of your favorite pair of jeans. How long did it take you find that one pair?  If you’re like me it may have taken a year or so. I invest so much into my wardrobe and agonize over each piece.  Each item needs to be perfect for me, I want to love each item and know that I’m paying for something I’m going to love wearing.  I’ve always said I don’t mind paying a lot for something, but I want to know I’ll have it for years if I invest in it.

When you’re pregnant, time isn’t a luxury that you have.  What you do have is a rapidly growing bump that you have to clothe everyday.  Sure, on the weekends I can throw on jeans and the same black maternity top every day. But I can’t do that for work.  Working in a formal corporate environment and regularly meeting with client is what I do for a living.  I need to look polished and professional at all times so having an arsenal of maternity office wear is super important.

Maternity Office Wear

I have a closet full of professional dresses, skirts and jackets that I’ve spent years assembling and a ton of money to create.  When I got pregnant I was so excited, but I wasn’t excited to buy the clothes.  To be honest, I’m very sad about my wardrobe.  I love my clothes and getting dressed each morning. Coming to terms with the fact that I can’t wear any of it for months is harder than I thought.  Given how upset I’ve been about my clothes I decided to put my energy into figuring out how I can still wear them vs. shopping for new clothes. Makes total sense, right?

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks….Non-Maternity, Maternity Office Wear.  Clothes that I already love and own that I could wear during pregnancy. I wouldn’t even mind investing in a few new pieces knowing I could wear them after pregnancy too.  And like that my vision came to life for non-maternity, maternity office wear.

You all know , MM LaFleur  is one of my favorite brands for work wear.  Over the last couple of years they have shifted their focus to a more power casual brand.  Meaning their pieces are less formal and truly work for the office and weekend, creating the perfect hybrid lifestyle.  Even better many of their pieces can be worn throughout pregnancy.  They recently popped up in Chicago and I had the chance to try on several of their pieces as I near the end of my pregnancy.  So my growing belly really put these clothes to the test.

Today I’m sharing individual product reviews as well as seven head to toe looks that can be worn while pregnant and not.  So keep scrolling for some timeless looks that every woman need in their wardrobe.

Delaney Jogger

Talk about a power casual piece, these joggers are the new everyday office pant.  They can also be worn all weekend long.  They are make of a lightweight fabric that is breathable, machine washable and wrinkle resistance.  They are heavenly!  The ankle has an elastic gathered bottom, which make them slightly casual,

Sizing

Pregnancy – Sized up to a large, given the size of my belly in the third trimester.  However I could have worn my normal size, a medium, for prior to these last weeks of pregnancy.

Non-Pregnancy – I would go with my normal size medium

Shop

Stella Leggings

Leggings that you can wear to the office!  They are made of a thicker pointe material which has full coverage and is 100% movable with you all day.  They are super high waisted and sleek.  I would pair these with a longer tunic top or blazer as they are still a legging.  They have a small slit on the ankle which dresses them up a bit.  They come in four colors, but the black and pebble have my heart.  Oh and they are machine washable!

Sizing

Pregnancy – sized up to a 12 in the third trimester, would most likely wear my normal size earlier in pregnancy

Non-Pregnancy – 8 or 10, which is more in line with my natural sizing

Keely Jogger

Everyone needs a little bit of luxury in their life and these cashmere joggers are the perfect piece.  Luxe cashmere, that is soft and not itchy to the touch.  Warm enough to wear on a colder winter day, yet lightweight enough to wear in the spring.  These are not a jogger to be worn in the summer though.

Sizing

Pregnancy – Medium (my normal size), however it gets tight in the third trimester

Non-Pregnancy – Medium, true to size and looks perfectly fitted and not baggy

Shop

Marijane Pant

A wide leg crop pant that feels like pajamas, but looks perfectly polished. The material is a rayon, nylon knit which makes for a slinky smooth feel.  They lay perfectly on your body, slightly hugging the hips and then creating the perfect flare leg.  They don’t look that great on the hanger, but on the body they are amazing!

Sizing

Pregnancy – Wearing a large in the third trimester and they fit nicely over the bump

Non-Pregnancy – I would most likely take a medium

Cookie Cardigan

MM has nicely slipped into the power casual space and this cardigan is a great example of it.  It reminded me of the boyfriend cardigan from the Loft that they had years ago, however the quality is 1000 times better.  Its a heavy cotton poly blend that feels and looks rich.  It’s a looser fit so depending on your preference you can get your normal size or size down.  I love that this can work in the office and on the weekends, its a closet staple.

Sizing

Pregnancy – My normal size, a medium

Non-Pregnancy – Medium

Molly Cardigan

This cardigan can be worn two ways; as an open cardigan or a midi length dress with a belt.  It’s made with the same material as of the Marijane pant, which is silky and smooth to the touch.  If you wanted a matchy matchy look I would pair this open with the pants.  I love this cardigan for pregnancy because it’s simply an extra layer which adds depth to your overall look.

Sizing

Pregnancy – Wearing a medium and can wear it as an open cardigan the entire pregnancy.  If wearing as a dress a medium would only work in the first and second trimester.  I would need to size up to a large in the third trimester.

Non- Pregnancy – Medium, which is my normal size.

Langley Bomber

I fell in love with this piece online and it’s even better in person!  While I love it for the weekend, it’s a great layering piece to wear in the office too.  The jacket is roomy, but the elastic waistband and sleeve balance it out nicely.  I love the notch collar that stands up on it’s own, it’s adorable.

Sizing

Pregnancy – Medium, my normal size.  Its a cropped jacket so it will look best when your belly is smaller.  I would not wear this in my third trimester though, my belly is too large and it looks unproportioned.  Best for first and second trimester.

Non-Pregnancy – Medium, my true size

Shop

Shawn Sweatshirt

An elevated sweatshirt that is ideal for a hybrid lifestyle.  While it’s sport for the weekend, it’s also polished for the office.  The material is a lightweight scuba and it’s fabulous.  If I could have a whole wardrobe full of this material I would.  It’s structured, yet flexible and has an amazing shine that dresses it up.

Sizing

Pregnancy – You can wear your normal size in the first and second trimester, however if you have a large belly your third trimester (like me) you would need to size up.

Pre-Pregnancy – Medium, my normal size.  It’s slightly boxy so you could size down if in between sizes.

Shop

Elsa Dress

Every woman needs this dress in their closet, PERIOD!  Made in a lightweight scuba, it is the most flattering dress I’ve even worn.  I wish I found this dress earlier in my pregnancy because I would have worn it to death.  It’s form fitted and has the right amount of flexibility for your body.  You can wear this in the office (layered with a blazer), on the weekend and to an evening event like a wedding.

Sizing

Pregnancy – I tried on a large and was 36 weeks pregnant and it fit nicely.   However, if I owned my normal size medium it would work with a smaller belly.

Pre-Pregnancy – I would most likely take a medium, my normal size.

Renee Dress

Such an easy, breezy spring and summer dress.  The materials are super lightweight and comfortable.  The dress can accommodate a growing belly without losing its shape.  Love the stylish comfort this dress offers for an effortless chic look.

Sizing

Pregnancy – I tried on a large at 36 weeks pregnant and felt like it fit nicely.  However if I took my normal size, a medium, it would work in the earlier stages of pregnancy.

Pre-Pregnancy – I would take my normal size a medium.
