Non-Maternity, Maternity Office Wear – Part II

maternity wear

Fashion Details:

The weekend is in sight and I can’t wait.  It’s a bit of a chaotic week, I’ve been in three different cities in the last 48 hours and looking forward to getting home to Chicago.  Do you guys travel for work? My travel schedule ebs and flows, but sometimes when it rains, it pours. I’ve gotten the whole packing for work travel down, but throw in a baby bump and more planning is needed for appropriate maternity office wear that travels nicely.

I’m so thankful that I stocked my closet with high quality pieces pre-pregnancy, and found new life for them in pregnancy.  Non-maternity, maternity office wear has been a huge theme for me right now. Did you catch my piece earlier this week with MM LaFleur about maternity office wear?  If not you can find it here.

Today I’m sharing with you 12 items that I already own in my closet and have been wearing on repeat for maternity office wear this pregnancy.  The beauty of these pieces is that you can wear them before, during and after pregnancy.

Sweaters and Blazers

Jargidan

If you’ve been following me a while you know my love for the Jardigan.  I actually tell complete strangers about the Jardigan. Hands down it’s the best piece I own in my closet (and that’s a bold statement!)  I have it in black and taupe and wear it at least twice a week to work. It dresses up any look and offers a fresh take on the traditional business suit.  The Jardigan lays open naturally and easily accommodates a growing bump. It nicely compliments all of my maternity office wear.

The O’Keeffe Sweater

I fell in love with this sweater years ago when the duster length sweater trend took off.  The trend is here to stay and I’m so happy I invested in this piece. This fall I’ve been wearing it as my coat.  I didn’t want to spend money on a maternity coat for fall since the season is so short, so I got resourceful. The O’Keeffe sweater can be worn opened or closed and is technically adjustable.  If it’s super cold out I throw on a cozy scarf for more warmth.

The Morandi Sweater

Cozy up at work or home in this beauty!  The Morandi sweater is the perfect desk sweater.  It not only keeps you warm, its so rich looking! Its super soft and allows you to feel cozy and relaxed while looking polished and put together.  It runs large, so I would size down for sure in this piece. Even with sizing down it will still look cozy, comfy and polished.

Dresses

Emily Dress

An A-line dress that offers more room through your waist and hips.  This dress will allow your belly to grown without showing too much in the early stages.  I wore this dress a ton in my first and early second trimester, when I wasn’t yet telling people I was pregnant.  It defused my belly and allowed me to look bloated vs. pregnant. I just started my third trimester and the bump is out!  The fabric of this dress is stretchy so it accommodates the growing bump nicely. It’s great for maternity office wear.

Casey Dress

One of my favorite picks when I’m not pregnant.  I once waited on a 1,500 person wait list to get my hands on this dress and it was worth it.  It’s form fitting and made from a stretch jersey material with ruching in all the right places.  I found myself gravitating towards more form fitting pieces in my pregnancy and this is perfect for that.  I love this dress for any woman in any stage in her life, before during and after pregnancy.

Sara Dress

Talk about a power dress!  The sleeve detail on this dress is my favorite, it gives me power in the office to take on anything.  This was the first MM LaFleur piece I purchased years ago because of the versatility of the dress. It’s a straight, yet boxy fit.  I ended up grabbing it in a size 12 and having darts put in the back to define the waist a bit more. The material is stretchy, wrinkle resistant and machine washable…and that makes it amazing.  The dress has no defined waist, which is great maternity office wear as it lets my bump go where it wants to and is comfortable all day long.

Annie Dress

A great option for your first or second trimester of pregnancy.  The defined waist may make it harder to wear beyond that though. The material is stretchy so it gives to accommodate the growing bump.  I have to admit I love this dress more when I’m not pregnant. I did find it to be a great option early on though when I was still in denial about my belly growing.

Tops

Didion Top

This is a short-sleeve top that is looser fitting with an asymmetrical bottom.  The top is flowy and accommodates a growing bump nicely. In both pregnancy and pre-pregnancy,  I’ve paired it with pants (these are my favorite maternity works pants right now and this pair is my favorite pre-pregnancy pair  everyone needs a pair of ponte pants!) , a skirt (my go to skirt right now is this jersey MM LaFleur Soho Skirt ) and over a dress. (See how to wear a top over a dress in this post.   It opens up your wardrobe to more possibilities.)  For sizing I would go one size up from your normal size, I have a small in my closet and around month 6 of pregnancy I could use a medium.

Bourgeois Top

I’ve owned this top for a over a year now and loved it the moment I tried it on.  It’s naturally a looser fit that looks amazing when paired with skinny ankle pants.  The top has a feminine wrap detail that flows beautifully on the body. You will get so much use out of this top for two reasons.  First, it’s machine washable and washes like a dream! I take it out of the machine and steam it wet to give it that perfect crisp look.  Second, you can wear this to work (with pants or a skirt) or you can wear it out to dinner and drinks with skinny jeans.  Versatility is key!

Townsend Top

A staple in my wardrobe right now.  This top is a looser fitting top and accommodates my growing baby perfectly.  I specifically bought this when I got pregnant. I’ve always loved figure fitting clothes, but knew there would be days when I wanted something looser fitting.  I find myself pairing this top with my Jardigan for work a lot.  (if you don’t own a Jardigan, you have to get your hands on one.  It’s the single item that has transformed my wardrobe. Still on the fences, see it action here  and here)  After pregnancy I plan on wearing it with a belt to cinch it up a bit.

Bottoms

Harlem Skirt

I originally bought this skirt as a compliment to my Jardigan.  It’s made of the same material and was my new business suit for work.  The waistband is essentially elastic and folds over. It’s perfect to mix into maternity office wear as the extra fabric can be adjusted up (or down) for more coverage on my expanding belly.

Soho Skirt

A pencil skirt with an elastic waist…dreams come true with this skirt.  First of all, it’s super soft to the touch. Second, it lays beautifully on your body.  It’s so comfortable you forget you have a sleek polished skirt on that will take you from day to night.  Pair this skirt with a tucked in top and let your bump shine. Or pair it with a looser top for a more relaxed look.
