Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops Review

Summer is in full swing, but is your tan?  Long gone are my younger years of laying in the sun for hours on end without any sunscreen to obtain the perfect summer glow.  I can proudly say I am older and wiser when it comes to the sun.  While I’m not a huge sunscreen person still (for myself) I do limit my time in the sun and obtain my sun kissed glow in the house.  This summer I’m using the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops and I’m loving the results.

I’ll cut to the chase and tell you upfront I give the Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops an A- in this review, they are wonderful! After the first use of the drops I was hooked, I could see results within hours of using them and achieved a natural tan.  I am taking points off because I didn’t like the way it made my face look.  While the drops tanned by face they also clogged my pores a bit.  I felt my natural glow, without tanning drops, fade away.  I don’t blame it on the drops completely, I just don’t think my facial oil and the drops mixed well together.

Types Of Self Tanning Drops

There are three types of self tanning drops; light, medium and dark.  While you can associate the colors with the type of tan you want to achieve I would associate it with your skin tone because you can adjust the strength of the tan by increasing the drops.

For lighter skin tones choose the peach colored bottles.  For medium skin tones choose the green colored bottle. And for darker skin tones choose the violet colored bottle.  I have an olive skin tone and tend to tan very easily naturally.  My gut told me to go with the green colored drops, but they were sold out.  So I went with the violet colored drops and I’m glad I did.

Even though the violet colored bottle produced the darkest tan you can adjust it based on the quantity of drops you use.  That is why I love these so much, you control your glow!

The Benefits

Drops Are Non-Toxic

The drops are 100% vegan, organic and cruelty free.  They do not contain mineral oils, petrolatum, gluten, GMO, or toxins.  This is a clean beauty junkies dream come true.

You Control Your Glow

No matter which shade you pick you can control the glow you receive.  The drops are distributed through a dropper, so more drops equal a darker tan.  You can use 1 or 12 drops (12 is the most they recommend) to obtain your desired glow.

Limited Smell

Most self tanning products stink, due to the chemicals they use.  The Isle of Paradise Drops don’t have those chemicals so they don’t smell.  Now they do have a scent to them, but it’s not that fake tanning smell you are probably familiar with.

How To Add It To Your Beauty Routine

What I love about these tanning drops is you don’t have to sacrifice your current beauty routine to use them, you simply add them in.  If you love your moisturizer you don’t have to get rid of it, you can use it and the tanning drops.  To use it you simply add drops to your lotion.  You mix it in your hand and then apply it to your face and body.

Tanning Drops For Your Face

First I wash my face and make sure it is completely dry.  I then mix the tanning drops with my moisturizer.  I add four drops of the violet colored drops to achieve my natural glow.  Then I scoop out enough moisturizer to cover my face and neck then I add four drops of tanning drops and mix it together with my index finger.  I gently apply the mixture to my face and neck trying carefully to distribute it evenly.

Tanning Drops For Your Body

The rest of my body includes my arms, legs, chest and torso.  I mix a large amount of my body lotion and up to eight drops.  I use more drops on my body because I am covering a larger surface area.  Then I scoop out a fair amount onto each section of my body and rub it in using both hands.  I get better coverage when I use both hands and can ensure I get every inch of skin.

Pro Tips

tips for using tanning drops

Test It Out First

Whenever adding something new to your beauty routine test it out first before applying it to your whole body.  I suggest mixing a few drops into your lotion and applying it to your upper leg or stomach.  You should look for any skin reactions or rashes that appear right away or within 24 hours of using the product.  Only move ahead using it on your full body if there are no reactions.

Wash Your Hands

This might go without saying, but anytime you are using a self tanning product you need to thoroughly wash your hands.  Make sure you scrub your cuticles too.  I didn’t focus on that and my cuticle beds are now stained.  I’m hoping it wears off soon 🙂

Avoid Your Elbows and Knees

Your elbows and knees are typically super dry and soak up any moisture that is applied.  Brush over your elbows and knees last when applying the lotion mixed with tanning drops.  This will apply just a light amount of product to those areas and won’t stain them.

Color Correcting

What I love about these tanning drops is they are color correcting because you are mixing them with your normal lotion.  If you desire a darker tan then you can simply add more tanning drops.  If I feel that I went a little heavy on the drops I can add in more lotion to balance it out.  You control your glow!

And finally you can apply the drops morning or night.  Most sites I read suggesting putting it on before bed, however I did the exact opposite.  I applied it in the morning.  The formula doesn’t rub off on clothes or leave a heavy smell so I opted to do it during the day.  It works perfectly for me and allows me to also do my nightly beauty routine.
