Fashion Details:

Happy New Years Eve friends!  Tomorrow we start a brand-new decade, isn’t that wild?  Tonight, we are keeping our New Year’s Eve tradition alive.  We are headed out to dinner (a lot earlier) and will be revealing our top 10 moments of 2019.  You can read about our tradition in this post here.

For tonight’s outfit I’ll be wearing my Going Out Blazer  with a simple cami underneath it.  It’s quick, easy and makes me feel like I put in a ton of effort to getting dress, when I really haven’t 😊 That’s why I love blazers, they let you look super polished with little to no effort.

I’ve been stocking my closet with blazers for years, but I’ve noticed that three blazers have been in there for years.  And these aren’t out of style old blazers, these are your trid and true blazers.  Classic styles and colors that will stand the test of time.

How To Find The Perfect Blazer

There are four areas that I focus on when looking for the perfect blazer.   Making sure these four areas fir perfectly will ensure that you have a blazer that you will love forever.

Shoulders – This is easy, the shoulder of the blazer shouldn’t extend past your actual shoulder.  The seam of the blazer should end where your shoulder ends.  You’ll be able to tell if the shoulders are too big or two small, but looking in a mirror.  You’ll also feel it when wearing the blazer, it fill feel to big or two small.

Sleeves – Sleeves are a little flexible.  If the blazer has ¾ length sleeves then you have leeway with the length.  However, a long sleeve blazer should cover your wrist.  The bottom of the sleeve should end at the joint of your thumb.  Taller gals, like myself you may have to cuff the sleeve.

Bust – The bust of the jacket needs to fit comfortably when closed.  Each side should cover about half of each breast and skim the rest of the area without pulling.  If the blazer is to tight when buttoned I would still consider buying it.  I rarely button my blazers; I always wear them open.

Torso – The blazer should follow the natural curves of your body.  It should lay smoothly over your body and not flare out at the bottom or pull across the back.

Blazers I Love

I tend to get all my blazers at J.Crew.  It’s not a coincident either, they make amazing blazers.  These blazers have been top sellers for years at J.Crew and I can see why.  I’ve owned mine for a long time and I find myself grabbing for them over and over.

These blazers are so versatile, they can be work for work, date night or running errands around town.  There is nothing I love more than wearing a blazer as my coat.  I throw on a scarf and off I go looking extra chic around town.

Going Out Blazer

The Going Out Blazer is a newer addition to my wardrobe and I can’t believe I didn’t pick up years ago.  Here is what I love about the Going Out Blazer.

¾ length sleeves

Modern fitted style

Collarless

Scuba material that is thicker, yet flexible

Sizing – This is a fitted blazer so you want to get your standard shirt size.  The sizes are numbered and I got it in an 8.  I typically wear a medium in most shirts and sweaters.

Parke Blazer

The Parke Blazer is my favorite because of the color, even though it comes in 4 colors.  The camel color is rich and vibrant.  This blazer will never go out of style

Classic one button closure

Classic fit, not to boxy

Shawl collar

Functional buttons on the sleeve

Sizing – Funds true to size.  I normally wear an 8 at J. Crew in jackets and went with the 8 in this blazer, it fits like a glove.  P.S. I actually bought it while pregnant and it worked great during my pregnancy.

Regent Blazer

My very first J.Crew blazer and where my love of J. Crew blazers began.  I’ve owned this blazer for over 5 years now and still wear it often.  I love this blazer for so many reasons.

Fitted, but not shrunken or tight

Popped (standing) collar with a contrast color

Slightly longer torso

Lined sleeves that are perfect for cuffing

Sizing – True to size.  I always taker an 8 in JCrew blazers and this one is no exception.
