New Hair Care System

Have you guys heard about the new Biolage Matrix Control System?  I recently had the opportunity to test it out and was pleasantly surprised.  It’s a 3 butter control system with a shampoo, conditioner, a day cream and a night cream.  The products have ingredients like Shea, Karite, Cupuacu and Murumuru to nourish and tame out of control hair and it actually works. It is also sulfate free, which is important to me as I have color treated hair.

Now let’s talk about my hair.  I’m sure you’ve seen it both curly and straight on here.  I wear it both ways, but the one constant thing is how much hair I actually have.  I have a ton of hair and it has a mind of its own.  It’s super thick, like as thick as a horse’s tail!  It’s not coarse though, it is actually soft and fine. There is just a ton of it.  I’ve had all types of hair, pin straight, ringlet curls and wavy. It seems to change every 5-7 years.  Have you guys experienced this as well?  My hairdresser says it has to do with hormones and natural changes in your body.

Right now in life my hair is slightly wavy all around with an extremely tight curly section in the back of my head.  My hair is colored and somewhat over processed.  I begrudgingly began coloring it 7 years ago, I couldn’t hide the grey anymore and it was making me look old.  In addition to the coloring I wash, blow dry and straighten or curl my hair every day, so it takes a good beating.   What is unique about my hair is how it is affected by the weather. When it’s straight and the weather has the slightest bit of humidity in it, my hair curls up.  On the other hand when its curly and the weather is humid my hair goes straight.  I just can’t get it right! I’ve spent a ton of money on finding the right hair care products, so I was a bit leary to try out the 3 Butter Control System from Biolage, because I’ve been pretty happy with what I’ve previously been using.  So let me break down the steps for you and my thoughts.

Shampoo

The shampoo is rich and creamy and smells like sweet butter.  It suds up a lot, so you only need about a dime size for your whole head. That means the bottle will go a long way.  After rinsing my hair it is very soft and I am able to run my fingers through it.  With most other shampoos you usually can’t do this until you apply the conditioner.

Conditioner

The conditioner is thick and slightly chunky, and it smells just as good as the shampoo.  In terms of the amount, I would use a quarter size or more to apply to your hair.  I like to make sure my hair is fully coated in conditioner.  I leave it on for 1-3 minutes, then rinse it out.  Once again my hair is silky smooth and I can run my fingers through it without encountering any tangles.

Day Cream

The day cream is like a leave-in conditioner, which I typically don’t like.  I feel that leave-in conditioners make my hair flat and weighed down and I’m unable to achieve the right amount of volume with them.  Unfortunately this day cream fit into that category.  Given my fine hair, it weighed it down and made it feel heavy and greasy.

Overnight Mask

The overnight mask is a miracle cream.  It’s pretty self explanatory. After using the shampoo and conditioner, you apply the night mask to wet hair.  I left it in overnight and woke up to super smooth, revitalized hair.  It smelled good and felt like silk to the touch.  I only use the overnight mask once a week, typically on a weekend when I don’t have to worry about truly doing my hair the next day.  I like to try to give my hair a break once in awhile.

Overall, I enjoyed the shampoo and conditioner for daily use.  I felt that my unruly hair was much more manageable when styling it.  Blow drying my hair was also easier to do.  While it still didn’t look like I stepped out of the salon, it was less frizzy and less curly in my hot spot on the back of my head.  I especially enjoyed that my hair was super smooth and less frizzy.  The overnight mask is a good deep conditioning for your hair and something I tend to use one a week.  It repairs the daily damage and gave my hair a nice shine.  If you have unruly hair or are looking to deep condition your hair I would recommend these products.  I religiously use the overnight mask once a week and can see an improvement in my hair’s health.

How about you? What hair care products are you using for deep conditioning your hair?  Any success stories?  I’d love to hear them and test them out!

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.  All opinions are my own.
