10 Items I’m Eyeing for Fall

Fall is in the air!  Well, not really as it’s still in the 80s in Chicago, but I’m craving fall!  As much as I love summer, I absolutely love fall. Crisp air, jeans and sandals and anything pumpkin gets me super excited.  I know I should just enjoy summer a little longer (and I will), but fall clothes are my favorite.

It might stem from my love of back to school shopping as a kid. Getting my closet ready for fall clothes is just as exciting as decorating for Christmas!  As we approach fall I am eyeing 10 items that everyone should have in their closet. These fall essentials will get you in the mood for cooler weather and excited to wear layers!

Neutral Booties

I am so in love with this Seville bootie from Franco Sarto, that I wrote a whole post about it!  You can check it out here.  Light-colored booties are the only way to go this fall.  They are such an undervalued fall color, but go with literally everything out there.  You can pair it with a softer colored outfit for a feminine touch. Or you can wear it with all black and have the shoes speak for themselves.  The point toe gives this bootie a more dressed up look which you can take from day to night.

Boxy Cardigan

You can never have too many cardigans.  This boxy cardigan is a great alternative to a normally fitted version.  With a boxy version you can layer it up and get super cozy or wear a tee shirt under it for warmer fall days.  This is also a great piece to carry with you and throw on when you get chilly. The blush color is my favorite and you can see it in action here.  This particular one also comes in a grey which is perfect for fall and winter!

The Loafer

Last year was all about the loafer slide, but this year it’s all about the traditional loafer.  Loafers are ultra preppy and make you look instantly put together. To really prep up your outfit wear a denim shirt, with a cashmere sweater over it.   On the other hand, you can also dress the loafer down. Pair it with distress jeans, a text tee and a blazer (btw have you check out my guide to buying distressed denim?, find it here)

Oversized Tote

If you don’t own an over-sized tote yet, you will want to get your hands on the market tote from Everlane.  It’s your go anywhere, do anything bag for fall. An over-sized tote for work is great because you can bring your computer, presentation books, and other office essentials with you from meeting to meeting.  The bag can pull double duty as well by throwing in your gym clothes and head to a workout. City gals use this ultra chic tote as your grocery bag when out and about. The quality of this bag is superior too, as it’s 100% leather and is butter soft.

Jardigan

Everyone needs this piece in their closet, period.  It’s the new blazer that pulls double duty for the office and also for the weekend.  For the office you can put it over a dress, or pair t iwith a pencil skirt for a super polished look.  You will be boardroom ready when you slip into this piece. To get your money’s worth out of this piece wear it on the weekend too.  Pair it with dark denim, a sky high heel and a simple clutch. This will be one of your go-to weekend outfits for sure.

Form Fitted Dress

If you know me, you know I love tight clothes!  Not like stretched to0 thin tight clothes, but form fitting clothes that highlight your best assets.  If clothes fit you properly you will always look put together. The actual size of the piece doesn’t matter, the fit is everything.  A form fitting dress is perfect for any occasion, from the office to drinks after work. The Casey Dress is my absolute favorite form fitting dress.  I once waited on a 2,000 person waiting list to get my hands on this dress and it didn’t disappoint. It wears like a dream and makes me feel like a million bucks!

Cream Colored Top

I’m loving the softer colors this fall.  I’m usually a black and grey girl, but the softer colors have me going wild right now.  There is nothing I love more than a cream colored top. Having a go-to in your wardrobe is a must have.  The cream top black bottom combo is ultra chic and reminds me of classic Chanel.  Cream can be hard to wear as it may wash you out a bit. Like white, there are several variations of cream from super light to rich and deep. So find one that looks best with your skin tones.

Animal Print Shoes

A hot trend for fall is animal print.  I’m pretty sure it’s been a hot trend for the last 10 years, which means it’s here to stay. My go-to animal print is leopard!  It adds spice to a regular outfit. Pair your animal print shoes with dark denim and a black turtleneck and you will instantly look chic.  You can also wear your animal print shoes in the office…yes, it’s perfectly acceptable. I love to pair them with a more conservative look, like a black dress or on jeans Friday.

Classic Denim

Denim is a staple in every wardrobe, it’s the one item you will wear over and over again in the fall.  Having a good, durable pair is essential! I typically stock up on denim in the fall and let that carry me through the next year.  It is like back to school shopping for adults. Over the last few years I started investing in my denim versus buying a bunch of cheap pairs.  Yes, paying $200 for a pair of jeans sounds crazy, but if I buy one pair that I love and it fits me well I get way more use out of them then 3 pairs of jeans that barely fit and that I don’t love. Quality over quantity is key in the denim department.

Over-sized Hoop Earrings

Tassel earrings were all the rage for summer, but oversized hoops are in for fall.  This fall I dare you to incorporate rose gold into your wardrobe. I recently strayed from traditional silver and started wearing more rose gold and I’m loving it.  Thin hoop earrings are the perfect piece to get to incorporate this metal into your wardrobe. Once you try it you’ll be hooked!
