Navy Essential Pieces

Hello friends!  It’s early January and I’m over the weather.  No, it’s not freezing in Chicago.  It has actually been pretty warm here and it’s annoying me.  I’m craving the cold and a snow storm.  Yes, I know that sounds insane.  So to get me over my winter blues I’m breaking out my navy blazer and other navy essential pieces!

Today’s post will be quick because I am currently multitasking, writing this post, while simultaneously trying out a brand new recipe!  If the meal comes out great, you will see it soon on these pages.  If it doesn’t, then let’s pretend this paragraph never existed. Ha ha.

Now back to the outfit.  The older I get the more I realize how my exssential pieces in my closet are navy.  Navy is refined, it exudes East Coast sophistication, yet relaxed preppy vibes too.  It is best paired with rich browns to bring out the full luster of the piece.

My navy blazer and other navy essential pieces are a large part of my closet, because it is a classic color that ranks high with blacks and creams.  If you don’t have a navy blazer or any other navy pieces in your closet I suggest you start with a blazer.  It’s the most classic piece and one you can play around with.

Navy Blazer

If you’ve been around here for a while you know that I am WILD about blazers.  I just dropped a Blazer Fit Guide a couple weeks ago that will guide you to finding the perfect fitting blazer.  My go to navy blazer right now is the Going Out Blazer.

You can wear it for a night on the town or to work.  I love the ¾ length sleeves, the thicker scuba material and the fact that it is collarless.  That adds a certain amount of edge to this navy blazer.  It is supposed to be fitted and your normal numbered size will fit.  I have it in an 8.

Turtleneck

Another easy navy piece to add to you wardrobe is the turtleneck.  I live in turtlenecks in the winter, I can’t get enough of them.  My go to is the J.Crew Tissue turtleneck.  They have a solid navy, a polka dot and a spotted wavy navy turtleneck (the one I’m wearing) that are great pieces to add to your closet.  The tissue turtleneck is thin and ideal for layering in the colder winter months.  You can also wear them alone in the early spring and fall.  The bad part is I find that the sizing isn’t consistent with the tissue turtlenecks.  I can take a medium or a large in them, it just depends. I suggest buying multiple sizes if unsure and returning one.

Round Out The Outfit

I round out my navy pieces with rich brown and gold accents.  My booties are my favorite! They are the Everlane Glove Knit Boot.  They are like wearing a sweater on your feet and are ultra comfortable.  I go into a lot more detail on the booties in my Everlane Shoe Fit Guide.  For sizing they run true to size.  I also ordered a black pair, which should be arriving soon (they were on back order for a month, they are that popular!)

I also paired my turtleneck with a statement necklace that is high and tight around my neck.  It’s something different and really adds a punch to the outfit.  Use statement pieces to make a statement…obviously.  They can be worn over clothes as well, they don’t have to stand alone to make an impact.

And my jeans, these are a pair I’ve had for years.  A great pair of jeans should last forever, right?!?  I’ve always loved 7 For All Mankind Jeans.  These are the high waisted skinny jeans.  I actually wore these (with a rubber band) during my early pregnancy.  They are super soft and stretch alot!  They are an investment, but worth it.

As you can see, navy essential pieces are the new key pieces for your closet!  If you haven’t yet added navy to your wardrobe I highly suggest mixing in one piece this season.  Start small and play around with it.  You won’t be sorry.
