Time is flying by so fast and I don’t know what to do! Not only does time fly when you get older, it flies when you have a baby. Lizzie is going to be a year old in one month and I have no idea where it all went. I do know that I’m beyond excited to start some new family traditions this holiday season. First up is baking cookies with Lizzie.
One tradition that Mike and I started last year was baking. I’ll be 100% honest. The term “we” should be used loosely. Ok fine, I baked chocolate chip cookies last year and Mike baked everything else. I am so thankful for his skills in the kitchen 😊.
Mike makes the most delicious Linzer and Mint Milano cookies. They taste just like Pepperidge Farms. Actually, I think they are better. While Mike is great with cookies, I’m really good with cakes and loaves. My go-to is the Cannoli Pound cake. I make it for every holiday and throughout the year when I have a taste for it. It’s a real crowd pleaser.
Being that this is Lizzie’s first holiday season, I want her to participate in everything, even though she is too little to actually help. She is a little busy body right now and hangs around with me no matter where I am or what I am doing. I call her my “little shadow.”
So if I’m in the bedroom, she is right by my feet seeing what I’m up to. It’s so cute! However, in the kitchen, I want her to be safe and that means not on the floor. With the hot stove, utensils and ingredients flying everywhere (you should see me bake, it’s a mess😊) having her safe and secure is important to me.

Cooking With Lizzie
Today Lizzie is helping me make my cannoli cake and providing me all of the assistance and smiles that I need. Did I mention that she is the best taste tester around? Mainly because she eats anything and smiles the whole time!
Now that your mouths are watering here is the cannoli cake recipe. It was passed down to me from a co-worker, however, I quickly figured out that it is a Smitten Kitchen Original Recipe. I absolutely love her recipes! I personally double the recipe and freeze one for later. If you do double the recipe add about 10-15 minutes to your cook time, depending on your oven.
