Havenly Design Process – An Honest Review

havenly review

Have you ever wanted to hire an interior designer, but didn’t want to pay the cost?  Well I have the solution for you.  Havenly is your one stop shop for professional interior design services at a reasonable cost.  I recently used them to redesign our master bedroom and was pleasantly surprised with the process and outcome.  In full disclosure I was gifted a design package in exchange to share my experience on social media.  So while I received the services free, anything I purchased from the site was out of my own pocket.  Would I be reluctant to pay for this service out of pocket? YES, but was I pleasantly surprised by the out come?  YES!  And would I use them again and pay for the service  YES!   Read more about my Havenly review.

My Project

We wanted to redo our master bedroom.  It just needed a refresh and and a bit of an update since we recently updated our master bathroom.  We are currently using my old furniture from my first home, and while it served me well for 15 years (mainly when I was single) it no longer fit our style.  It was time for a major refresh.  Here were my goals with the redesign.

  • Slim down the furniture, have less bulky pieces and more sleek looking pieces
  • Add a small desk
  • Switch from a queen to a king size bed
  • Refresh the rug and bedding
  • Add artwork
  • Overall I wanted it to resemble a luxury hotel

The Process

You will see in this Havenly review that the whole process is very easy to use and follow.  Step-by-step instructions will guide you through the website.  The first task is to select your designer.  You can scroll through each designer’s biography and see past work.  I picked someone that had a similar style as me.  I choose Gonzalo Llosa as my designer and was so happy with my choice.

The next task and the most tedious is getting all our ideas and thoughts written down.  During the intake process you will complete a standard questionnaire, upload room dimensions and photos, and take a style quiz.  You should input as much detail as possible as your designer will use it to create the room of your dreams.  While most everything is done online and you communicate via email, your designer may offer you a phone call as well.  I personally didn’t use this, but the option is there.

After that, your work is done and the designer will take it from there.  Based on your initial comments your designer will provide you with three design ideas.  These boards will vary in style as the objective is to really drill down to what you like.  This phase focuses on style, such as colors, furniture style and overall feel of the room.   Here is a look into my design ideas, which you can see how I rated them.

Concept Board

After you provide feedback on the design ideas your designer will create a concept board.  This is the start of the final process.  You will work with your designer to fine tune this board until your project is complete.  I was surprised that I liked the majority of the items in the concept board right away.   I tweaked a lot of things and got pretty into the weeds during this process.  My designer was great and listened to all my crazy feedback, which included;

  • Switching back and forth to a bed with storage and without
  • Debating the leg style of the dresser and nightstands
  • Measuring and remeasuring each piece to ensure we were maximize the room and storage features

Once we nailed down everything our designer provided us with a 3D layout of the room and it looked amazing!  It was very similar to what you would see on an HGTV show.  Below I’m sharing my initial concept board (there were many iterations) and my final 3D design.  I’m so excited to get our bedroom set up, once everything arrives.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day I have a gorgeous room that I am so excited about.  However there are a few lessons learned from this process that I wanted to share in this Havenly review.

  • You can purchase all of the items in your designs boards/concept boards through the Havenly website.  In some instances the prices are cheaper than you would get on the brand’s website.
  • Items do sell out.  Sadly the dresser and nightstands my designer picked (and I love) sold out before I was able to purchase them.  We found something similar though, but I’m a little bummed about it.
  • Havely will coordinate the shipping and delivery of all items.  They communicate that via email with you.
  • When purchasing multiple items they may ship at different times.  We have a chair coming next week and a bed arriving in January.
  • Your designer receives a commission off the items you purchased.  So you should purchase through Havenly to reward your designer for their hard work.
