Capsule Wardrobe – 1 Skirt 3 Ways

1 skirt 3 ways

I recently posted my first capsule wardrobe post focused on maternity wear, you can check it out here.  The post really inspired me to do even more capsule wardrobe posts and mini posts related to styling one piece different ways.  I think the best items to buy are ones that you can wear over and over again.  Having a closet full of pieces you love means you never have to worry about “having nothing to wear.”  I find the pieces that I truly love are from my favorite brand, MM LaFleur . They have pieces that are beautifully crafted and work well with so many different body types.  Their pieces are classic and the quality is top notch.

I’ll be the first to admit that their pieces are a little pricey and I was reluctant to purchase them at first.  However, once I bought one piece I was hooked on their items. They are truly beautiful pieces that stand the test of time.  The fabrics they use are gorgeous and can stand up to a decent amount of wear and tear.  They are truly investment pieces and articles I believe everyone should own.

In today’s capsule wardrobe edition, I will be showing you 1 skirt 3 ways.  The item I am featuring today is the Soho Skirt from MM LaFleur.  The skirt is made with a stretchy jersey materials and fits like a glove.  The material isn’t thin either, it’s thick and it holds you in the skirt. You don’t have to worry about anything shaking or looking loose in this skirt.

The skirt is a classic pencil style that looks chic no matter what you pair it with.  It has the perfect amount of ruching and draping to flatter any shape and size. These strategically placed details allow for extra room in the waist and hips.  You won’t have worry about it being too tight, the details take care of everything. Now onto how to wear this 1 skirt 3 ways.

Look #1 Night Out On The Town

My first 1 skirt 3 ways look is perfect to go from day to night.  So many times I have events after work and need to have an outfit that looks appropriate for both occasions.  Usually the events are with clients, so chances are I have a client meeting during the day followed by dinner at night.  Having one outfit that fits both events is key for any working woman.

For this look I’ve paired the Soho Skirt with a the Octavia Top, which is fitted.  I’ve tucked in the top to create a sleek look that appears to look like a dress.  To create a seamless look I’ve untucked and made the top slightly messes to match the ruching in the skirt.  You can play around with it and make it look however you want. For sizing I am wearing a large in the top. This size accommodates my chest and even my slight baby bump.  I was 6 months pregnant when we shot these photos.

Other tops that would create the same sleek look include:

The Fey Top

The Blixen Top

The Winfrey Top

Look #2 Everyday Office Chic

Now let’s talk about untucking.  An untucked shirt can actually look put together with the right bottom.  My preference is to tuck in shirts with shirts, however if you have the right top you can wear it untucked.  The reason this outfit works is because it’s balanced.

Creating a balanced look is key when pairing tops and bottoms.  At a minimum you should pair a fitted item with a loose item. Given the skirt is fitted you have the option to wear a looser tunic style top.  I would not pair a loose top with a loose bottom, as it will look sloppy.

The Bourgeois Top offers the right amount of loose and flowy to compliment the Soho Skirt.  It’s a tunic style that has an asymmetrical swoosh across the front of the body.  It hangs nicely on the body and looks sophisticated and chic.

A few other tops that would work for this look include:

Loretta Top

The Dolores Top

Didion Top

Look #3 Business Meeting Ready

1 skirt 3 ways

My final 1 skirt 3 ways look will have you taking on a business meeting in style.  In recent years I’ve moved away from the traditional matching business suit.  I feel that they are a bit outdated and there are so many better options to wear.  I have a few go-to meeting dresses I wear, like this one, this one or this one.

However, if I feel the need to wear a “business suit” I create an updated one with the Soho Skirt.  It’s technically a knit pencil skirt, which is ideal for a business suit. I’ve paired it with the printed Townsend Top and Jardigan.  If you don’t have a Jardigan yet, you need to get one. I wear this piece at least twice a week. It’s the new blazer and looks so polished when paired with your outfit.

These three pieces are all different fabrics and textures, but together they create one put together look.  This look is the new business suit and will give you the confidence to run a kick-ass meeting.
