8 Ways to Style Utility Shorts

My favorite time of year is here!  It’s the transition period between summer and fall.  I love mixing my clothes from the two seasons together to create looks that are functional, cozy and slightly fall.  During this time the temperature is very unpredictable too.  One day it’s 90 and the next it’s in the 70’s.  That’s why having one piece of clothing that can be worn on all those days is so important. This year my go to piece are my utility shorts.  They are ideal for hot summer days and perfect for those cooler almost fall days.

Utility shorts originated with the idea that you would be working in them.  Making them functional with pockets and a waistband that stays in place.  Well, we all know I’m not working in these shorts, but I am running around town, lounging or playing with Lizzie in them.

 

The pair I’m featuring today are only $20 and in my opinion the best ones out there.  They come in four colors; pink, green, orange and grey .  I own the pink and green and couldn’t be happier with them!  I love the relaxed fit and the elastic waist.  They are so comfy to wear around, especially when working from home.  In fact, I can do just about anything in them from riding a bike to playing in the park with Lizzie.

 

These utility shorts also have great pockets.  The pockets are large enough to hold my cell phone, keys and a mask.  The shorts are the longer length too and have a small cuff at the bottom of the leg for a little extra style.  They are the short of the summer and fall!

Sleeveless White Ruffle Tee +Brown Leather Sandals 

I’m keeping summer alive with this fun ruffle top.  It’s one of my greatest Amazon finds and it’s only $18!  I’ve also washed it a bunch and it hasn’t fallen apart, so I know I have a good piece here.  I’ve finished out the outfit with my brown leather sandals that are a great transitional piece for the fall.  

 

White Tee + Jean Jacket + White Sneakers

White tees are plentiful and classic in my wardrobe.  When I throw on my jean jacket it really brings this outfit into fall.  Everyone should have a jean jacket in their closet, it will always be in style.  Mine is a lighter material and I love it.  Even though its lighter in color I can wear it for all the seasons.  To make this outfit 100% classic, I’ve added my white sneakers.  Check out all the ways I style my white sneakers in my post here. 

 

Denim Button Up + Sam Edleman Sandals 

You can’t go wrong with a denim button up.  You can have a denim button up for  years and it never goes out of style.  Mine is from JCrew and it’s about 3 years old, and they still sell it today.  I grab for it every time I want a fresh classic look.  My sandals are the famous Sam Edelman Bay Cutout.  I’ve eyed these for years and am so happy with my purchase.  They have a classic style that will last summer after summer.  

 

Long Sleeve Stripe Shirt + Allbirds  

Another classic item that I’ve had for years, the long sleeve stripe tee.  You can pair this with just about anything in your closet for any season.  Mine is old, but the current style can be found here.  I’m pairing this look with my Allbirds.  Allbirds are totally worth the hype and one of the best shoes I have.  I can machine wash them when they are dirty and they come out looking brand new.  

 

White Puff Sleeve Blouse + Brown Leather Sandals 

My puff sleeve blouse is a newer staple in my wardrobe.  You can read more about it here .  I love the way the blouse dresses up these shorts making it ideal for a night out or even brunch.  Again my brown leather sandals make an appearance because they are so rich looking.

 

Cream Sweater + Brown Leather Sandals

Pairing these shorts with a lightweight sweater is the best transitional fall outfit.  Having either your arms covered or legs covered makes me feel a little bit warmer.  It also lets me hang onto summer in these shorts.  And adding my brown leather sandals makes this look timeless.  

 

Casual Tee + Birkenstocks

Grey Hoodie + Birkenstocks 

Cool summer nights are perfect for a hoodie and these shorts go perfectly with it.  This is the perfect sitting outside on the balcony outfit.  Chances are high I’m throwing the hoodie on over my tee shirt I wore during the day.  I’m also slipping into my Birkenstocks as they are my everyday sandal in the summer.  They are so comfy!
