Barefoot Dreams Cardigan Review

Fashion Details:

Every so often the power of the internet takes over and I am influenced to buy a product that everyone is raving about.  My most recent purchase is one I was influenced to buy…the Barefoot Dreams Cardigan.  I’ve been following this item for over a year now and have seen it on 10+ bloggers sites and they all love it.  But are they telling the truth?

I’m really into figuring out if something is truly worth it or if it just pays a high commission in the blogging world.  Yes I’m a skeptic 🙂  I recently reviewed the Olive & June Mani System to see if it was the real deal or just an internet unicorn.  Check out the post here to see how I rated it.  But let’s get back to the Barefoot Dreams Cardigan, is it worth the price?

The honest truth is the cardigan is insanely soft and feels amazing on your skin.   It also provides a great deal of warmth on chilly winter days.  I’ve been know to slip it on when working from home for a little extra warmth.  However I would consider this lounge wear, it’s not something I would wear to work (in the office) or out to brunch.  I would wear it on the weekends or when working from home.  However I don’t feel overly professional or polished in it.  At the end of the day it truly is a lounge wear piece and evaluating it based on cost is necessary.

Cost Per Wear

barefoot dreams cardigan review

I’m a big cost per wear person.  If an item is $15 and I never wear it once then I’ve wasted $15.  If an item is $50 and I wear it ten times, it’s $5 per wear and that is pretty good.  So every item in my closet is evaluated on a cost per wear basis and if the price is under $10 I consider it a very good investment.

The Barefoot Dreams Cardigan is $116 normally.  I picked it up on sale for $80 during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I’ve probably worn it 6 times, which brings my cost per wear to $13.  Not the $10 I was looking for, but pretty close.  So was it worth it?

I’ll be honest, no it wasn’t!  While the cardigan is extremely soft and cozy, it’s a bit too loungy for me.  I’m not a huge loungewear person unless it looks like non-lounge wear (confusing, I know) so this item wasn’t the best investment for me.  However if you are into lounge wear and wear it consistently then this item is for you.

Looking back I should have invested in the Barefoot Dreams Blanket.  I use a blanket every night on the couch and on cold nights I use an extra layer in bed.  Knowing how cozy the material is, the blanket would have been a better fit for me.  The blanket would have a much better cost per wear (or use in this case) and I would have gotten my money’s worth out of it.

Overall Grade

Overall I give the Barefoot Dreams Cardigan a B-.  It’s super soft and cozy, but a bit too casual for me.  I can also say that I was totally influenced to buy this item and it didn’t turn out to be the best item for me.  The lesson here, trust your gut and buy what you know you will love.
